For 2016 I began a series dedicated to the Nereides.
THE NEREIDES were the fifty sea-nymphe daughters of Nereus the old man of the sea. They were goddesses of the sea's rich bounty and protectors of sailors and fishermen, coming to the aid of those in distress. Individually they represented various facets of the sea from the salty brine, to the sea foam, sand, rocks, waves and currents, as well as the various skills possessed by seamen.
Each of the Nereides in the series is unique. Each one is numbered named after a specific Nymph.
"GLAUKE" is the Nereid of "Blue-Grey" waters
The series are made from drawings I made of waves that are transferred onto acetate to create hand colored carbon transfers. The waves are colored with blues, grays and gold. It is hard to tell from the photos but the gold accents shimmer depending on the angle one stands from the work.
It is mounted in a handmade custom frame of stained wood and gold accents.
She is 7" x 6.25" x .75"
