Since I was a child I adored the tale of an old witch, Babayaga that lived in a house upon a chicken leg. It creeped me out but did'nt scare. I liked the idea of living in a house like that with a mean old witch who would usually be out gathering plants in the forest so I would be left alone with the chicken house and all the familiars.
I began making these little guys in 2011 from the scraps of my many bird installations over the years. I accumulated a lot of discarded legs and feathers. I have a hard time throwing things away and I entertain the notion of using "the whole animal" when it comes to materials and what is left over after a project is finished.

My love for houses and birds is combined with my love for the old Eastern European fairy tale to create these cute and creepy creatures.

They are made of basswood with hand colored carbon transfers upon plastic and feather bodies. The roofs are all hand made from tiny wood dollhouse shingles. The custom bases are all one of a kind.
This one is made of a block of 3/4 ply with sand, concrete and acrylics.

This one is "ALICE". she stands on her own custom made base at 5.5".
The base is approx. 1.75" all around.

The piece is signed on the bottom and has 4 brass tacks hammered in to help preserve the inscription.

Each Babayaga House is a unique and one of a kind object. A lot of love and detail goes into each one of these little guys.
They feed off the souls of children and easy to take care of.
