I was inspired to do this series of tall thin houses after a visit to Manhattan in 2017. Although I lived on the island of Manhattan for over 20 years, I did not spend much time mid-town and during this particular trip I was confronted with a view of 432 Park Ave., the tallest residential building in the world, standing right outside my hotel window.
Not long after my return home I began the series of Gotham blocks. Singularly I feel they encompasses the commanding presence of a skyscraper. In groups they inspire feelings of clutter and claustrophobia I adore while walking through the streets of Manhattan.
Is blocks are made out of acrylic painted hardwood square dowels.
I am keeping this an open series but I am numbering them.
This is number three
