Named after the Washington Irving nickname for the city of New York, these handmade buildings are a direct response to the place of my birth and home for most of my life. The tall buildings of this metropolis have been a source of inspiration and mystery for me for as long as I can remember.
I recall having encountered the overly heightened structures in dreams and nightmares before becoming aware of them in my waking life. The image of the tall thin building gives me a sense of anxiety and excitement.
These blocks are an homage to the landscape that had a large part in shaping my own character and still do to this day inspire the images and objects I create.

Just like my VILLAGE IN A CAN:NIGHT VILLAGE, I am offering a series of NIGHT BLOCKS. These totems represent the tall city towers at night.
If you have ever spent enough time living in a city, you get familiar with a particular feeling and atmosphere a metropolis can create once the daylight is gone. These blocks are a celebration of this triggered emotion.
There is no telling how many GOTHAM BLOCKS will be made since it takes a good deal of time to create each building.

For this reason, each block is numbered to their corresponding series,

This is NIGHT BLOCK #1
