This is an alternate version/study of PALLAS GENESIS 2016.
The piece is a silver gelatin print with acrylic, wax and carbon transfer.
The character is Athena, from ancient Greek mythology. I have her depicted as a child before she became the goddess of wisdom, craft, and war and before accidentally killed her friend and sparring partner, Pallas.
The laundry list concept also seems to be an archaic way of keeping track of what needs to get done.
This version came together in the studio as I was working on the larger "Pallas Genesis" while writing a sounding board of ideas for the concept of the character.
Study works are very special as they are the genesis of the materializing of ideas towards future works.
The framing technique used is a nod to the traditional mounting used for photography but rather than mat board and glass, I have come up with my personal take on the process.
The print has been cold press mounted on an MDF board. Wax pencil, acrylic washes and carbon transfers are applied and then the whole work is coated in my home made beeswax/dammar/carnauba wax encaustic.
The image is matted in custom hand cut and beveled MDF board which has been painted and waxed. It comes mounted in a custom made waxed wooden frame.
The end result eliminates the need for glass. The wax preserves the image while making whole object simple to maintain and keep clean.
The mat window is 8.5" x 8.75"
The frame is 16" x 16.25" x 1.5"
The back is signed, wired and ready to hang
